Product Care
Taking care of solid polished aluminium is easy. Make sure that you always use two clean and Soft cloths.

Use a normal household window cleaner, and cleaning becomes easy and satisfying. The use of a silver polish can be messy, and is not at all necessary if you use a window cleaner about once a month. Apply the window cleaner to the one cloth, and dry and buff with the other. In South Africa you can use Windolene to clean and buff your candle holder or lamp to a mirror finish. It only takes a minute.

Aluminium is a relatively soft metal, so Never use an abrasive to clean polished aluminium. An abrasive sponge, sandpaper, or a course rubbing compound will scratch aluminium. Always use a clean soft cloth.

To get wax off your candleholder, run the affected parts under a hot running tap water. Turpentine is good for getting off any wax residue after the hot water treatment. Don't try and scrape off candle wax with a knife. Turpentine can also be used in place of a window cleaner, but is not so pleasant smelling.

If you would like to use a metal polish, Wenol or Autosol, which are both made in Germany, are excellent products. A creme that will protect metal well, is Renaissance, which is made in England. Autosol is available at motor bike specialists. Weenol is not as widely stocked, and, as far as we know, Renaissance is not available in South Africa.

Choose your candles
Non drip candles have an exterior coating that burns slower than the center of the candle. The hot molten wax is kept in the middle of the candle by the tougher outer layer. Always use non drip candles.

Don't burn a candle in a draft. The draft will blow the flame onto the harder outer surface, and the wax will start to drip. You can't tell a non drip candle by looking at it, so ask your shop assistant if the label doesn't read "non drip".

Before you use a candle for the first time, make a hole in the bottom center with a narrow sharp object, so that the candle will fit snugly over the spike.
